5 tips for fiction book writing

If you are considering the possibilities or setting your journey into the world of fiction then you will come across a stage where you will feel daunted. However, there are certain rules and regulations that can be followed to assist you with crafting a narrative that is engaging and focusses, making it more publishable. To help you with that, we have gathered 5 important factors that make an influence on fiction writing.

5 Main factors to follow for writing fiction books

  1. Knowing the audience:

Often at times, new writers aim to gain their audience as fast as possible and in order to do that, they revolve their narrative around more than one segment of audiences. And as a result, their work ends up drifting away from a single narrative. The story strays off everywhere, turning into an entangled mess; unable to realize that fiction book writing does not have to please everyone. It is crucial to understand that not everyone has the same interests or preferences, therefore, it’s important to focus the energy on a single point and work hard to strive towards success.

Once you have sorted out the aspects concerning your targeted audience based on their gender, age and etc. Format your story whilst keeping them in mind and from their perspective. Alter any elements that can potentially cause hindrances within the story for them.

  1. Underlining your genre:

Alongside identifying your audiences, you also need to highlight the genre that suits you. Readers are going to expect to gain certain features from your story. Genres are categorized into subgenres that inspire specific plots only. However, there is an option to write a cross genre story that focuses on different themes falling under the same context. Although, you will be required to keep the story consistent and free from confusion.

  1. Building characters inspired from real life:

It is essential to create characters based on real life, for example characters that experience different emotional states that are noticeable. Most stories that have made it to the top consisted of three dimensional characters that readers find easy to resonate and relate with. A good example of that would be a character that has managed to overcome drug addiction, and now she is going through a different phase in life that is full of melancholy and fears. A character as such is going to engage readers more than one who shifts throughout the story without facing any struggles.

It is the struggle that makes victory more satisfying. Not only is it inspiring but engrosses the reader into the character development, unfolding each layer with time on how the character too is as flawed as any other human being would be. Similarly, antagonists require emotions that are widely felt by us.

  1. Paint with words, don’t just tell:

Writers who are new to their field often make the error of overdoing their explanations within their stories, instead of creating an imagery with their words. Instead of delivering an explanation on how the culprit ended up in the jail, showcase the journey with emotions and imagery step by step. The transitioning is what grasps attention, not only does it form vivid pictures for readers but helps readers in bringing the story to life with their imagination.

In manner to do that effectively, you can choose to guide the reader through the characters internal states, their thoughts and reasoning. Allow your readers to be the character, be in the same shoes and feel through words.

  1. Allowing your scenes to unfold systematically:

It is best to let scenarios fall into their place one by one rather than trying to wrap them up immediately. Sow the seeds of your plot from the very beginning but do it discreetly, in a manner that the climax remains a mystery but the readers prepare themselves for the grand finale. This is going to influence your readers to develop an urge to keep on reading. Add cliffhangers rather than opting for unnatural closings that are abrupt and uncalled for.

By following these tips for writing a fiction narrative, you will be able to revive your words, bring life to them and make an impact on your readers. Make sure to live and feel the story, before you dig into writing processes.
